Dialing With an Iridium Phone
Dialing with an Iridium phone may seem odd, as it is not the same as dialing from your cell phone. With these easy steps, we will show you how to dial outgoing, as well as incoming calls with an Iridium phone.
Dialing to a landline or cell phone from an Iridium phone
When dialing from an Iridium phone to a cell phone or landline, it is helpful to think of the outgoing call as originating from its own country. Even if the Iridium phone you are using is located within the country you are calling, it is still necessary to dial a country code. When calling a cell or landline, the phone number you enter will need to be prefaced by 00 + the country code of the area you are attempting to dial.
Calling to the United States
The country code for the United States is 1. Dialing to the U.S. will begin with 001 followed by the area code and phone number.
001 281 679 6141
If your sat phone is set for prefix + then you would dial +1 281 679 6141
Calling to the United Kingdom
The country code for the United Kingdom is 44. Dialing to the U.K. will begin with 0044 followed by the phone number.
0044 01473 327813
Note: Any contacts in your Iridium phone book should be stored with the dialing sequence above to be able to place a call directly from the phonebook menu.
Dialing an Iridium phone from a cell phone or landline
When dialing directly to an Iridium phone, you will be making an international call. For any international call, there is specific sequence to follow. The key to dialing an iridium phone number is to preface the Iridium phone number with your country’s exit code.
The exit code for the United States is 011, so to dial to an Iridium phone from a cell phone or landline with a U.S. phone number, you will dial 011 in front of the Iridium phone number.
011 8816 316 01234
The exit code for the United Kingdom is 00, so to dial to an Iridium phone from a cell phone or landline with a U.K. phone number, you will dial 00 in front of the Iridium phone number.
00 8816 316 01234
Please keep in mind that dialing directly to an Iridium phone is charged to your cell phone or landline at the provider’s international rate. If your phone does not have the ability to dial internationally, or if you want to avoid an international call rate, there are a couple of other options.
+1 Phone Number: Iridium offers the ability to add a U.S. based phone number to your plan, if you currently subscribe to a post-paid account; we refer to this as a +1 number. With a +1 phone number, calls inbound to the Iridium phone will be charged by your cell phone or landline provider at a domestic rate.
If the person you are trying to call does not have a +1 U.S. based phone number provisioned to their airtime account, you can call them at a domestic rate using the Two Stage Dialing sequence.
With the two stage dialing sequence, you will first call the phone number for Iridium in Arizona.
The call will be answered by a computerized voice asking for the Iridium phone number. Enter the Iridium phone number without adding the country code.
The call will be automatically routed to the Iridium phone.
